On the Internet, many frauds such as phony software updates, gifts, and surveys are still quite frequent. Many websites utilize phishing and social engineering tactics to deceive visitors into giving up personal information, installing PUPs (potentially unwanted programs), and malware.
Browsers such as Google Chrome have included features that safeguard users as much as possible from such websites. Safe Browsing is a Google Chrome security feature that detects and informs users about potentially unsafe websites. Google Chrome will scan the websites and compare them to a list of URLs that are possibly harmful. It scans for data breaches involving your personal information, such as e-mail and passwords, and sends you an alert whenever one occurs on the Internet. Google Chrome Enhanced Safe Browsing Mode lowers your risk of being phished by 35%. Even if a website isn’t on the list of potentially harmful URLs, it detects it and activates extra security measures. In this article, we’ll show you how to enable or disable Safe Browsing in Chrome on Windows 11/10.
Safe Browsing helps in examining the content of online pages and warns you if a site appears to be dangerous. If you are using a low-end PC, removing previous Chrome versions will be a better idea to free up disc space. It is always a good idea to keep the Safe Browsing option turned on. Because it protects you against phishing and malware-infected websites, if you wish to disable safe surfing in Google Chrome for a certain period of time, you may do it easily.
Enable or Disable through the Registry Editor:
Step1: Press Windows + R, type Regedit, and then click OK.
Step2: Use this key, HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies, which should be copied and pasted into the address bar.
Step3: Select a new key by right-clicking on policies. Then, rename this key to Google.
Step4: Create a new key called Chrome by right-clicking on the Google key.
Step5: Make a new DWORD (32-bit) value named SafeBrowsingProtectionLevel by right-clicking the available area on the right.
Enable or Disable Through Google Settings:
Step1: Click the three dots in the top right corner of a new tab and select settings from the drop-down menu.
Step2: Go to the Privacy and Security tab.
Step3: Then, choose Security.
Step4: To stop Safe Browsing, choose “No Protection” and then “Turn Off” the window that appears.
Even if false positives do occur, please ensure that the site you wish to visit is safe. If you have any concerns, we recommend that you ignore Google’s suggestion and do not visit it. Malicious URLs that execute drive-by downloads can be found on fraudulent websites. If you unintentionally click on one, you may not notice how a Trojan or other malware is installed on your machine. The issue with this technique is that it can occasionally produce false positives, labeling perfectly genuine websites as hazardous for various reasons. Other than that, it is perfectly fine if you want to stay away from malicious websites.
