Ph.D. admission at the University of Madras will take place during two sessions in a year (June and December). On the University of Madras website, the admission schedule will be announced through advertisement. Within the specified date candidates are required to fill up the online application and submit the requisite fee as per instruction given in the university website. Demand drafts for Rs. 500 are required from candidates. A student who belongs to a recognized tribal group is exempt from paying tuition fees. However, the fee may vary depending on the category of the students and the course for which they are applying.

Eligibility Criteria for University of Madras PhD Admission 2024

  • Patterns of Study 10+2+3+2 (or) 11+1+3+2 are eligible for admission to do Ph.D. Program.
  • Candidates should have obtained a Master’s Degree with 55% marks in the qualifying examination (PG Degree). For SC/ST candidates and for candidates who have completed the PG degree before 1991, the minimum can be only 50% for admission to the Ph.D. Program.
  • According to the Government Order, the M.Phil Degree obtained by the candidates through the correspondence / Distance Education / Open University System Govt. order only will be considered as eligible and the MPhil degree obtained through the Correspondence/Distance education/Open University System are not eligible.
  • Regular teachers of affiliated colleges with two years of teaching experience after P.G., degree., are eligible to register for Ph.D. (Part-time) Program.

Selection Procedure

  • The admission shall be based on the criteria notified by the Institution, keeping in view the guidelines/norms in this regard issued by the UGC and other statutory bodies concerned, and taking into account the reservation policy of the State Government from time to time.
  • The admission procedures could be completed by the Departmental Selection Committee of the University departments/ Affiliated College admission committee / research Institution committee, provided the following guidelines.
