Nithya Menen is an Indian film actress and playback singer who predominantly works in Malayalam and Telugu cinema, but has also appeared in numerous Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films. She made her debut as a lead actor in the 2008 Malayalam film Aakasha Gopuram and has since starred in over 40 Indian films. Her filmography spans many languages like Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada etc. She was born on 8th April 1988 at Bangalore to a Malayali family from Palakkad district of Kerala. She was noted for her performance as an independent artist in the Indian pan-Indian film Mersal (2017) which became one of the highest grossing Tamil films worldwide. Nithya has won three Filmfare Awards South for Best Female Actor for her performances in Ustad Hotel (2012), Bangalore Days (2014), and Mersal (2017). She was born in the city of Bangalore, in the state of Karnataka. Her parents are of Malayalam descent, and she was born into a family of Malayalam speakers. Nithya Menen had no intention of becoming an actor; instead, she had hoped to pursue a career as a writer. However, she soon realized that journalism was not her cup of tea, and she decided to pursue acting instead. During her learning years, she made a friend named B. V. Nandani Reddy (a film director), who was incredibly supportive and encouraged her to pursue her dream of becoming an actress and eventually a model.

She is a multi-lingual actor who has worked in various south Indian languages and Hindi. She made her debut in two Malayalam films, Aaram Thirukalpana and Akale, directed by Anjali Menon.
