How to add or remove the Home button in Microsoft Edge Complete Guide/Steps

In 2015, Microsoft Edge was released alongside the release of Windows 10. The new browser was intended to replace the dreadful Internet Explorer – a browsing tool that has been plagued by vulnerabilities and usability issues and has been dubbed the slowest browser in history.

Despite Microsoft’s best efforts, MS Edge received poor reviews, and few users switched from the ever-popular Chrome or even the old Internet Explorer. With the introduction of Chromium Edge, the business has re-entered the browser rivalry. Many consumers chose Firefox over Chrome or other browsers because of its privacy-focused approach and lower resource consumption.

But when it comes to desktops, MS Edge has already surpassed Firefox in terms of market share. Despite its growing popularity, people continue to express concerns about its functionality. One of the major concerns is that the home button is absent by default in MS Edge. The function of the button is quite straightforward. When clicked, it leads people to a specified URL.

The browser component has been most likely considered optional by the developer. Nonetheless, many users dislike the browser’s default Bing search provider, and in order to change it, users must have the home button activated in specific instances. In certain circumstances, users prefer to use their home button.

Using the browser:

Step1: Launch the Microsoft Edge browser and go to Settings and More > Settings.

Step2: Go to the Start, Home, and New Tabs sections which is present on the left side.

Step3: Scroll down to the section under “Home Button.”

Step4: Toggle the switch to the right by clicking the Show home button on the toolbar.

Step5: Similarly, you can set the new tab page – you can either pick your preferred URL with the second choice or leave it as is with the New tab page.

Using the Registry Editor:

Step1: In Windows search, type regedit and hit Enter.

Step2: If a warning about User Account Control (UAC) appears, click Yes and then choose File > Export.

Step3: When the new box appears, pick All under Export range, give your backup a name, and then click Save.

Step4: Once the backup is complete, perform these steps by returning back to Registry Editor.

Step5: Since the MS Edge item is unlikely to exist in the Registry, you should add it and if the Edge key is indeed in there, skip the next step.

Step6: Right-click on the Microsoft folder and choose New > Key, then give it the name Edge.

Step7: Select the Edge folder on the left by clicking it once.

Step8: On the right, right-click an empty area and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, then name it “ShowHomeButton”. After that, double-click the newly formed key.

Step9: To delete the Home button, set the Value data to 0 and click OK. Similarly, you may activate it by changing the value to 1.
