Gmail Won’t Load? How to Fix It

Restarting Gmail:

If you’re having trouble using Gmail, you may frequently fix the issue by just closing out of your current Gmail session and starting it back up again. If you are currently logged into Gmail using a web browser, you will need to exit the browser, reopen it, and then return to the Gmail website. If you are using a mobile device, you will need to exit the application and then restart it.

Trying Another Browser:

If that doesn’t work, switching to a different web browser is the next logical step in figuring out what’s wrong with your Gmail. Whether you often use Chrome, for instance, try opening Gmail in Firefox to check if it still functions properly in that browser.

If it works, figuring out why it isn’t functioning in Chrome may be a problem for another time; in the meanwhile, you can get on with the rest of your day. If it doesn’t, at least you don’t have to worry about it.

Alternately, if you are having trouble with it when using the mobile app, try switching to a browser to see if you have a better experience there.

Checking whether you have a reliable internet connection:

Perhaps it goes without saying, but you should also check that your WiFi or cellular data connection is stable. For instance, even if you do not have internet access at home, it is still conceivable that the signal strength of your WiFi connection will be satisfactory.

There is a possibility that your mobile device is attempting to connect to the WiFi network, but no data is being sent. To verify this, try to see if any other applications or websites are experiencing the same issue. If you are using a mobile device, you also have the option to disable WiFi and coerce the device into using the cellular data connection instead.

Restarting the computer:

If you are still unsuccessful, power down the device you are using—whether it is a PC, an Android phone, or an iPhone—and then start it back up again. After that, give Gmail another shot. It may be necessary to restart the device in order to resolve issues that have arisen in the device’s memory or with an application or browser.

Clearing the browser cache:

Last but not least, it’s possible that the cache in your browser is preventing Gmail from functioning correctly. In order to verify this, please try clearing the cache and cookies from your browser. Here is how to clear your cache and cookies in Chrome, for example, and if you’re using an iPhone, you need first remove the Gmail app, and then reinstall it from the App Store. If you are working with an Android smartphone, the procedures may vary very little depending on the phone that you are using and the version of Android that you are operating, but here is the basic approach that you should follow:

Step 1: Launch the Settings application.

Step 2: Select “Apps & Notifications” from the menu.

Step 3: Navigate to the list of applications and choose “Gmail” from the list.

Step 4: Select the “Storage and cache option”.

Step 5: Select the “Clear cache” option.

Try Gmail in Incognito Mode

Buggy browser extensions or add-ons can interfere with some Gmail functionalities and prevent the email service from working correctly. Accessing Gmail in incognito mode can help diagnose if the problem is caused by harmful extensions or applications.

  • Launch Google Chrome.
  • Go to the top-right area of the browser, then click the More icon, which looks like three vertically aligned dots.
  • Select New Incognito Window. A new window will show up.
  • Check if the Incognito icon can be seen in the top corner of the window.
You can also open an incognito window by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N on your keyboard

Adjust Date and Time Settings

Your device might be unable to establish a connection with Gmail’s servers if its date or time is incorrect. Head to your device’s settings menu and ensure the date and time settings are set to update automatically.

In Android, go to Settings > System > Date & time and toggle on both Use network-provided time and Use network-provided time zone.

Checking Gmail Labs

One of the ways to fix this issue is to disable the labs one by one. Doing this will help you determine which is preventing Gmail from loading. Here are the steps:

  1. Open Gmail through this link.
  2. Go to the top-right section of the app, then click Settings.
  3. Select Settings, then go to the Labs tab.
  4. Disable the labs one by one.
  5. Go to the bottom of the page, then click Save Changes.

Reset network settings on your iPhone XS Max.

  • Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  • Tap General.
  • Scroll to and tap Reset.
  • Select Reset Network Settings option.
  • If prompted, enter your device passcode to continue.
  • Then tap the option to confirm network settings reset.

Turn Off Any Proxy Connections

A proxy server provides a gateway between users and the internet, minimizing the chances of cyber attacks. But on the negative side, it can be a primary reason you cannot access Gmail on Microsoft Edge.

So, consider disabling the proxy server and check if it resolves the problem. Here’s how.

  • Open the Start menu using the Win key.
  • Type Internet Options and press Enter.
  • Switch to the Connection tab.
  • Click on LAN settings.
  • Uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN option.

I had given up on gmail allowing you to schedule when to send a message. Plus, I didn’t (and couldn’t) use a 3rd party app at my workplace. I like to delay send a message for the opposite reason that you supplied in your email. I didn’t want people to think I was working all night -we had far too many of those types of people in the office already and I didn’t want to add to people’s stress levels. Thanks for sharing this!
